CHICKEN
Yardbirds predominantly raises a slower growing breed of broiler chicken called the Freedom Ranger. These birds grow at a slower rate than the conventional Cornish Cross which results in a juicier, more tender meat rich in Omega-3 fats (which Kelly finds is easier to cook because it is not dry and stringy). Freedom Rangers were bred for pasture based systems. This means they are better built to live in our natural environment. They successfully withstand changes in weather, are more heat tolerant, exhibit their natural bird instincts, and overall have a stronger immune system. Kelly is also interested in raising the Color Yield breed (when available) and experimenting with the Pioneer breed, which is touted for being heat tolerant.
